Song, a tough out for anyone in the division, ended Nurmagomedov’s aspirations to earn another title fight early in the second round inside Shanghai Oriental Sports Center. As Nurmagomedov attempted a takedown, Song connected with a nicely timed punch that left Nurmagomedov removed from consciousness.

Hours after the knockout loss, Nurmagmedov released a statement via social media.

“Everything is fine with me,” Nurmagomedov wrote on Instagram (translated to English via Instagram). “Alhamdulillah. Thank you so much to everyone who writes. I will work on the mistakes. And I will be back.”

The event was headlined by a bantamweight bout between No. 2 ranked Umar Nurmagomedov and No. 6 ranked Song Yadong.

Nurmagomedov, a former title challenger, had put together back-to-back wins since losing in to Merab Dvalishvili in a championship bout at UFC 311 in January 2025. It’s the lone loss on the Russian’s impressive resume.

Song entered Saturday’s main event coming off a submission win over former flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo. A won over the No. 2 ranked contender would put Chinese fighter in the title discussion.

They touched gloves and song took the center of the cage. Nurmagomedov circled on the outside. He stepped in with a leg kick and Song answered with a counter right hand. Each pawed with their jab. Nurmagomedov caught a leg kick and took Song down. Song applied a guillotine choke but Nurmagomedov defended the submission attempt. Nurmagomedov stayed heavy on top in the center of the octagon. He moved to half guard. Song scrambled to his feet but didn’t do much after. MMAWeeekly scored the round 10-9 for Nurmagomedov.

They touched gloves to start the second frame. Song again took the center of the cage. They exchanged leg kicks. Nurmagaomedov shot for a takedown and Song stuffed the attempt. Nurmagomedov partially connected with a head kick. He landed a stiff jab. Song found a home with an uppercut. He connected with a right hand and knocked Nurmagomedov out. The official time of the finish was 1:48 of the second round.

Xiaonan entered the match at Shanghai Oriental Sports Center coming off a decision loss to Virna Jandiroba in her last outing. She had lost two of her last three fights and needed a win to stay in the top tier of the division. She last fought in April 2025.

Gomes brought with her a four-fight winning streak having emerged victorious in six of her last seven bouts. The Brazilian was looking to pick up the biggest win of her career and jump several spots in the rankings.

Xiaonan took the center of the cage. She connected with a right hand the two exchanged leg kicks. Xiaonan began mixing in side kicks to the lead leg of Gomes. Gomes pressed forward and connected with a huge right hand., Xiaonan took it and fired back. Xiaonan landed a combination with two minutes remaining in the round. She fought a home with an overhand right. Gomes connected with an elbow that dropped Xiaonan. A follow up combination left her unconscious on the canvas grabbing the referee’s leg. Gomes left the crowd silent.

The official time of the stoppage was 4:49 of the first round.

While many consider ‘The Notorious’ the standalone best trash talker in the history of mixed martial arts, legendary boxer Tyson Fury believes he deserves much of the credit.

During an interview with Russian media outlet ALF Global, Tyson Fury claimed that Conor McGregor copied his persona and blueprint to achieve global fame. McGregor was able to capitalize on a sport that was short on household names, used trash talk to his advantage while also delivering spectacular performances inside the cage, and quickly became the biggest star the sport had ever seen. Because of this, Fury wants to take full credit for pioneering the exact style that defined McGregor’s career.

Nurmagomedov hit the scales first and officially weighed 135.5 pounds. Yadong came in slightly heavier at 136.

Three fighters failed to make weight. Flyweight Andre Lima weighed in one pound above the 126-pound flyweight limit. Women’s flyweights Xiong Jingnan and Julia Polastri came in heavy, Xiong missing weight by one point and Polastri missing her mark 2.5 pounds. Lima was fined 20% of her fight purse. Both fights will proceed and planned.

Perry made the announcement during Thursday’s Duel Arena 1 pre-fight press conference. On 48-hours notice, former UFC fight Brandon Jenkins stepped in to face “Platinum” at Kia Center. The bout headlines the fight card.

“Let’s not beat around the bush. This p*ssy ass b*tch Dillon Danis didn’t show the f*ck up,” Perry said. “He’s not here. He backed the f*ck out because he’s a p*ssy.

Danis pulling out of fights is nothing new. He last fought MMA in August 2025, defeating Warren Spencer at Misfits 22. He’s had freestyle wresting matches in RAF against Colby Covington and Khamzat Chimaev earlier this year and is scheduled to face Arman Tsarukyan for the inaugural RAF Middleweight Crossover Championship in the main event on October 3, 2026 at RAF 14.

Jenkins last competed under the Most Valuable Promotion’s banner on the Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano fight card in May, defeating Chris Avila via split decision.

This is exactly true for BKB Bare Knuckle Boxing, the world’s largest bare knuckle boxing promotion in the world, which has announced a massive shakeup for their main event for BKB 58: Miami, which takes place at the James L. Knight Center this Saturday, August 29th.

With heavyweight title challenger Mark O’Neill being forced to withdraw from the fight due to visa issues, reigning BKB Heavyweight Champion Gustavo “The Cuban Assassin” Trujillo will now defend his title against multi-promotion world champion Mick “The Butcher of Shields” Terrill. The fight is being touted by many in the boxing industry as one of the biggest matchups in bare knuckle boxing history.

Terrill called for a shot against Trujillo and the heavyweight title and got what he asked for on just a few days’ notice. Saturday night in Miami will be his chance to become an instant BKB legend.

“The second I heard Mark was out, I knew this was my moment, so I demanded they put me in. I’ve always said I’ll fight any man, anytime, anywhere,” Terrill said. “Here’s the proof. I’ve wanted this title for a long time and now I can prove why I’m the number one heavyweight in bare knuckle boxing. This is my shot and I’m taking it. Miami, get ready. I’m on my way.”

“The Cuban Assassin” is fresh off a demolition victory over Florian De La Motte at BKB 57: London back in July which resulted in a first-round KO win. Trujillo has been BKB heavyweight world champion since 2024 and currently sports an undefeated record in the “Trigon” and plans on keep everything intact Saturday night.

“Be careful what you wish for. Mick wanted this fight so badly, and now he’s got it,” Trujillo said. “Eight opponents made the same mistake of getting in that ring with me and none of them saw round two.”

With the main event set, the co-main event will now feature the bare-knuckle boxing debut of Olympic gold medalist and former boxing world champion Yuriorkis Gamboa, who meets Yesner Talavera. Gamboa is a former two-division boxing world champion, having held the World Boxing Association (WBA) featherweight title (Regular version) and the International Boxing Federation (IBF) featherweight title, and the WBO lightweight title, which he lost to the great Crawford.

Saturday’s stacked card also includes the BKB debut of UFC veteran Aspen Ladd against Bianca Daimoni, while hometown favorite Robert Duran Jr., son of boxing legend Roberto Duran, takes on Ryan Spivey.

In his time away recovering and undergoing surgeries, the fight promotion put together an interim title bout between Gane and former two-division champion Alex Pereira. Gane defeated Pereira setting up a potential rematch with Aspinall.

Some have called for the 33-year-old to stripped of the belt. After Aspinall inked a deal with UFC CEO Dana White rival Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Talent Agency, some questioned whether the champion was positioning to leave the organization.

On Wednesday, Stipe Drvis, Aspinall’s boxing coach stated on Instagram Live that the heavy-hitting Brit no longer wanted to fight in the organization. Drvis’ comments prompted Aspinall to release a statement via social media.

“I’m not leaving the UFC. I’ve never said I have in any interview and any words that have been taken from others today are simply not true,” the statement read. “We are talking to the UFC daily and they will update you guys always.”

She entered the bout against Alex Apodaca as an astronomical -6000 betting favorite. Apodaca pulled off the biggest upset in DWCS history defeating Mir via unanimous decision. On Wednesday, Mir released a statement via social media.

“I’ve lost so many times. Big or small, each loss carries me into a different mindset and learning experience to be a better athlete. I have overcome every single obstacle into my life and I will overcome this one. Now it’s just a bit different that this loss is more famous than my other ones. ,” she wrote on Instagram.

“Thank you so much to everyone sending me love and encouragement. And I promise to all of you that it takes way more than hate and 1 single loss in my mma career to break me.

“I want to thank my team, my family, my fans and Dana for getting me here and further. I also want to thank Alex for taking this fight, all respect to her. Everytime I lose, I come back and win something bigger and better. No loss has ever defined me, and neither will this one. And how cool is it to do what I love on such a big platform. Literally living my dream!! Next Best Thing.”

The grappling standout won the NCAA wrestling 145-pound title earlier this year. Next month she’ll attempt to defeat 2024 Olympic silver medalist Kennedy Blades and secure a chance to compete for the United States at the World Wrestling Championships in Kazakhstan later this year. She also plans to capture titles in UFC BJJ and Zuffa Boxing.

“The Incredible Hok” is looking for an opponent and, on Tuesday, took aim at a familiar target, former two-division UFC champion Alex Pereira.

Hokit has singled out Pereira a few times in the past, including during the UFC Freedom 250 Pre-Fight Press Conference. The Brazilian has largely refused to engage with or react to the Californian’s antics, but that hasn’t stopped Hokit’s attacks.

Pereira last fought on the same night Hokit defeated Lewis at The White House in June. He was stopped by Ciryl Gane early in the second round for the interim heavyweight championship. The fight was Pereira’s heavyweight debut.

Mir headlined the fight card pitted against Alex Apodaca. Apodaca’s takedown defense proved effective against the NCAA champion wrestler and was able to score a unanimous decision upset.

UFC CEO Dana White has known Mir for years and even advised her about her future paths not long ago. He has a close relationship with the multi-sport athlete and weighed in on her loss during the event’s post-fight press conference.

“I was extremely biased coming into tonight. I’ve been close to her for over four years,” White said. “Four years ago, she came to me and wanted to sort of map out her future. I’m the one that talked her into going to college, you know, and waiting, you know, getting a wrestling background in college, do some great things there, and then come here and, you know …”

Mir entered the Meta Apex in Las Vegas on Tuesday with a 4-0 professional record. Apodaca was 3-1, but White believes Mir’s inexperience played a role. She had only gone the distance once before while all of Apodaca’s fights were settled on the scorecards.

“Like I said out there, [Michael] Bisping absolutely nailed it and said, ‘The difference in this fight is deep water. Bella’s never been there and Alex has,” said White.

“Like Bisping said, she didn’t have deep water experience and now she does. She didn’t fold. She didn’t get stopped. She didn’t quit. This is all part of the game.”

The fight card was headlined by a women’s bantamweight but between Bella Mir, the daughter of former multiple time UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir, and Alex Apodaca. Despite being an astronomical underdog, Apodaca won via unanimous decision and received a UFC contract.

Heavyweight Guilherme Uriel earned an offer from the fight promotion for his 50-second submission win over Mario Piazzon in the co-featured contest.

Welterweight Sean Clancy Jr. secured a place on the UFC roster with his second-round TKO win over Gary Balletto Jr. He put an end to the fight with a series of brutal elbows.

Welterweight Ronald Humphrey was offered a UFC contract after his first-round submission win over Alexis Miranda. He forced a bloodied Miranda to tap out to a rear-naked choke.

Middleweight Nick Galanti only needed 35 seconds to finish Carlos Petruzzella via knockout to kick off the night of fights. After dropping Petruzzella with a right hand, Galanti went in for the kill with a series of unanswered punches.

Mir caught a kick and worked to get the fight to the ground but Apodaca remained standing. Mir stepped in the pocket with a combination. They clinched and worked along the cage. Apodaca began mixing in front kicks to the body. Late in the round, Mir secured a takedown and took Apodaca’s back. Apodaca reversed the position and landed punches at the bell. MMAWeekly scored the round 10-9 for Apodaca.

After an exchange of right hands, Apodaca went back to utilizing front kicks. By the end off the round, Mir was bleeding from her nose. MMAWeekly scored the round 10-9 for Apodaca.

The 23-year-old is undefeated in mixed marital arts (4-0) and plans to eventually be a UFC champion. That journey begins against Apodaca .

“The goal was to always transition eventually to the UFC,” Mir told MMAFighting. “I just got back from college and had my meeting with Dana [White] and I was just like telling him that it’s really hard to get me fights under like UFC Fight Pass and like these smaller shows. There was a year where I couldn’t even fight anyone because everyone said no. I went though like 20 people.”

“He was like, ‘yeah, so do you want to do The Contenders?’ I was like, “Yeah, I mean, it’s probably the right move. So, we just got right to it.”

Mir doesn’t just want to become a UFC champion. She wants to earn titles in UFC BJJ, Zuffa Boxing, and become an Olympic gold medalist as well.

“I don’t want to go for just world titles. I want to go for a legacy. I want to be legendary. I just want to shoot for the highest I could get. I just want to be in that talks of, you know, the best athletes of all time,” she said. “I don’t even want to be the best MMA fighter, or the best combat athlete. I want to be the best athlete of all-time. I just want to hit the highest of goals that you can hit and I just stay focused and I just always reminding myself of those dreams of mine.”

Rodrigues entered the fight ranked No. 10 and riding a three-fight winning streak. He utilized leg kicks to take control of the fight in the early rounds. Hernandez mounted a comeback but came up short. During the post-fight press conference, Hernandez accused Rodrigues of cheating.

“The f**ker was cheating and grabbing inside of my gloves. And I told Herb (Dean) that. I fight clean, man. So, it is what it is. Maybe I should be more dirty,” Hernandez said. “I told f**king Herb, ‘this motherf**ker grabbed my glove like four times, and I was like, ‘Hey, he’s grabbing my gloves.’ And he told him, ‘Hey, stop.’ But I mean, whatever, don’t take a point, whatever. You know what I mean? F**k it. I guess people like to cheat, so it is what it is.”

On Monday, Rodrigues responded to Hernandez’ allegations during an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show.

“He can say whatever he wants. You know? The fact is I beat him with the leg kicks, the punches. He didn’t take me down. He didn’t do nothing. He did put a pressure that was good, but I didn’t cheat him. He knows that,” Rodrigues said.

“I didn’t cheat during the fight. We fought good. It was a dogfight. Everyone saw it. we tried to kill each other every moment and every round. If it was clear, Herb Dean would’ve said something, or everyone’s going to see on TV or whatever.”

“Lionheart” was arrested in Nebraska following an incident with his wife. He is accused of terrostic threats, two counts of false imprisonment and attempt of a class 1/1A/1B/1C/1D felony. He’s been ordered to appear in court for a status hearing on Sept. 21. He’s currently out on $45,000 bail.

On Sunday, Smith broke his silence following the arrest and spoke out in a social media post.

Days after the July arrest, the Sarpy County District Attorney’s Office released a statement detailing the accusations against Smith.

“It is alleged that on July 26, 2026, the defendant was involved in an altercation with his wife at a bar in Gretna, Neb., during which he reportedly threatened to kill her if she did not get into his vehicle and go home with him,” the statement read. “He is further accused of grabbing and pushing her inside the vehicle. 

“At one point, during the drive, she was able to exit the vehicle. The defendant allegedly continued making threats, demanding that she get back inside the vehicle. After arriving home, she again exited the vehicle. Investigators allege that the defendant attempted multiple times to use the vehicle to strike her. The defendant’s wife was able to get out of the way and avoid any physical harm.”

Rodrigues won the bout via unanimous decision but according to Hernandez the fight also included some dirty tactics by “Robocop.”

“The more I seen him slow down I thought, “Okay, I’m going to get him this round.” And I hit him a few times and rocked his sh*t. He’s a tough son of a bitch, man. I hit him with everything in the kitchen sink. I hit him with some hard elbows,” Hernandez said during the UFC Sacramento Post-Fight Press Conference. “The f**ker was cheating and grabbing inside of my gloves. And I told Herb (Dean) that. I fight clean, man. So, it is what it is. Maybe I should be more dirty.”

“I told f**king Herb, this motherf**ker grabbed my glove like four times, and I was like, “Hey, he’s grabbing my gloves.” And he told him, ‘Hey, stop.’ But I mean, whatever, don’t take a point, whatever. You know what I mean? F**k it. I guess people like to cheat, so it is what it is.”

“Fluffy” also revealed that he entered the bout injured and admitted to having injections in his shoulder prior to the event.

“When I took this fight I was injured, out for seven months, so I knew what I had coming into this. I had a f**king shoulder injury. I just got injections on Saturday so I wouldn’t feel my shoulder,” he said. “All odds stacked against me. I had a hurry-up camp. And I went out there and did what I did, so I’m proud of myself at the end of the day.”

Fight of the Night honors went to the main event. No. 7 ranked middleweight Anthony Hernandez and No. 10 ranked Gregory Rodrigues headlined the fight card and did not disappoint. Rodrigues won via unanimous decision but the match will likely be a Fight of the Year candidate. The back and forth war earned each an extra $100,000.

Banking the other two Performance of the Night awards were lightweight MarQuel Mederos and women’s flyweight Carli Judice.

Mederos stopped Mason Jones in the second round via TKO due to elbows and punches. Judice scored a first-round finish over Jeisla Chaves in main card action. A front kick to the body set up fight-ending punches.

UFC Sacramento featured 13 bouts. 10 of them resulted in stoppages. The six other fighters that stopped their opponents received $25,000 finishing bonuses. 16,867 spectators were in attendance at Golden 1 Center generating $3.3 million is gate receipts.

The former Strikeforce, Invicta FC, UFC and Bellator Women’s Featherweight World Champion made her professional debut in 2005 and has held titles in every major MMA promotion that featured women’s fighting. The bout was Vieira’s promotional debut. During Friday’s weigh-in, she missed weight by a staggering 7.2 pounds.

Vieira took the center of the cage to start the fight as Cyborg circled on the outside. Cyborg landed first with a punch to the body. Vieira stepped in with a right hand. Cyborg invested in leg kicks early. Vieira looked to get the fight to the ground late in the round but Cyborg shrugged off the attempt. Cyborg landed to the body followed by a right hand to the head. Cyborg ducked under a punch and secured a double-leg takedown early in the third frame. She stood and delivered right hands to the body before dropping back into Vieira’s guard. Cyborg postured up and landed right hands. Vieira kicked Cyborg off and got to her feet. Vieira pressured Cyborg. They exchanged on the inside. Cyborg pressed forward with a right hand. Cyborg clinched and a knee went low. Vieira was given time to recover and the action restarted.

Hernandez entered the bout coming off a TKO loss to current champion Sean Strickland. The February defeat snapped an eight-fight winning streak for the Californian. Rodrigues brought with him a three-fight win streak and having won six of his last seven outings.

They touched gloves and Hernandez took the center of the cage. He immediately looked to get the fight to the ground. He pressed Rodrigues against the fence and they battled for position in the clinch. Rodrigues defended a single-let takedown attempt. They separated two minutes into the frame. Hernandez inched forward and quickly shot for a takedown. Hernandez didn’t give Rodrigues any space. They separated and Rodrigues connected with his jab. Hernandez clinched and Rodrigues landed a right hand on the break. Hernandez landed a combination and he looked for a takedown. Hernandez connected with an elbow and a left on the break. Rodriguez (20-5, 1 NC) released a statement on Thursday via social media revealing the reason he was forced to withdrawal from the annual event commemorating Mexico’s independence day.

“I got injured. I tried to continue with my training, but in the end, I wasn’t responsible enough to compete in these conditions,” Rodriguez wrote on Instagram. “I wanted this fight and I know many of you did too. Now my job is to fully recover and come back prepared to compete at the level you expect from me and that I expect from myself. Thanks to those who continue supporting me. See you soon.”

Rodriguez last competed in April 2025, defeating Patricio Freire at UFC 314 via unanimous decision. He’s been largely inactive in recent years fighting once in 2025 and once in 2024. He was replaced by Arizona native and rising star Jose Delgado.

Rodriguez was scheduled to face Jean Silva on the Sept. 12 event in Glendale, Arizona but undisclosed reason forced him to withdraw. Instead, Silva will take on Arizona native Jose Delgado in a  five-round fight.

MMAFighting first reported the news and Silva and Delgado later confirmed it via social media. Rodriguez last competed in April 2025 and has been largely inactive in recent years.

Delgado (12-2) made his way to the UFC roster through the Dana White’s Contender Series in 2024. He’s won four of his five octagon appearances, is ranked No. 14 and is riding a two-fight winning streak. It’ll be his first UFC main event match.

Silva (17-3) has won 14 of his last 15 fights. He’ll enter UFC Noche 4 ranked No. 6 in the 145-pound weight class and coming off a decision win over Arnold Allen in his last outing.

The event, which takes place at Desert Diamond Arena, is expected to feature 13 bouts. The event will mark the promotion’s third visit to Glendale and will be the fourth annual Noche UFC event commemorating Mexico’s independence day.

Liddell filed an emergency custody order in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday asking for full custody of his 14-year-old daughter Guinevere.

Liddell alleges his ex-wife abducted their daughter after realizing her efforts to relocate both Guinevere and their 13-year-old daughter Charlie to Newport Beach, Calif, would not be granted before the school year began, according to court documents.

The alleged abduction took place the day before the first day of school. According to LIddell,  his ex-wife had “no intent to return her.”

The former UFC light heavyweight champion also accused Heidi of violating other court orders including not using a co-parenting communication app and failing to bring Guinevere to extracurricular school activities.

The former couple were married for 14 years and finalized their divorce in April 2025. Heidi denied the allegations and pushed back against her ex-husband’s allegations telling TMZ she “never abducted anyone.”

“For the past 5 years after our divorce, Chuck has been obsessed with staying in my life and trying to control me,” she said and added that the children “don’t feel safe speaking up to him at this point.”

“My door has always been open for my kids to see Chuck and I never abducted anyone,” she said.

“I worked for this. I dream of this. This is what I want. I know that this is a straight opportunity to a title shot. I’ve dreamed a lot about this and we’ve gotten it. On the way to a title,” Ruffy told UFC on Paramount +.

Questioned about his approach to defeating Tsarukyan and overcoming the Armenian 
Russian’s grappling, Ruffy said he’ll let actions speak for themselves.

“Talking, anyone can talk. But I like to walk. I’ll let the actions do the talking,” he said. “We know the wrestling is going to be something that’s strong, but I’d rather show what’s happening.

“I know he is a very tough fighter. He’s actually probably the most challenging fighter that’s going to be presented to me. It’s a challenge. I’ve trained a lot for this. I’d rather us not talk and show people. I’m ready. I’m excited. I’m ready to go.”

“I’m not worried about what he brings to the table. I’m never worried about it. I’m not going go train thinking of what he brings. I’m worried about what I bring to the table,” continued Ruffy. “I go into the octagon thinking the same thing, I know I have to defend those takedowns and knock people out.”

The fight card was headlined by two world title fights. The main event featured a welterweight title bout between champion Islam Makhahev and No. 2 ranked Ian Machado Garry. In the co-main event. women’s strawweight champion Mackenzie Dern put her belt on the line against No. 4 ranked Gillian Robertson.

After a recent meeting with UFC chief business officer Hunter Campbell, top ranked welterweight contender Carlos Prates has a new multi-fight contract and assurances that he’s next in line for a title shot.

“I’m really excited now to go. It’s my time to train for him, fight him, and get the title,” Prates said on The Ariel Helwani Show. “I’m the next for the title. Yeah, basically, new contract, next one for the title and let’s go.”

When Prates eventually stands across the octagon from the champion, he predicts a violent ending and the crowning of a new champion.

“I’m excited to test myself against him. I know I’m really underdog, but not because of the title only the title or money, but I really want to fight him because I want to test myself against him,” said Prates. “I’m really excited to do this. I really think I can win. I can like shock the world I can make everybody surprising. … I will do this. I will do this.”

“I’m ready to fight. I can’t wait to fight him. I know I’ll knock him out. I promised everybody. I promise people in Brazil. I promise my coach. We’re going to change up everybody’s life and I will bring that belt to Brazil.”

The fight card was headlined by a welterweight bout between Namo Fazil and ormer two-time Oktagon Welterweight Champion Kaik Brito. Following the event, the winners and UFC CEO Dana White answered questions during the post-fight press conference.

The fight card was headlined by a welterweight bout between Namo Fazil and ormer two-time Oktagon Welterweight Champion Kaik Brito. Fazil entered the but riding a seven-fight winning streak. Brito was coming off back-to-back victories.

After two entertaining and eventful round, Brito scored a stoppage early in the final round. He connected with an overhand right that rendered Fazil unconscious on the canvas. The walk-off KO earned the Brazilian a UFC offer.

Following the event, UFC CEO Dana White awarded six UFC contracts. Along with Brito, Roman Puga, Taner Trembley, Alik Lorenz, Trent Miller, and Cristian Pérez received offers to join the UFC roster.

Trembley became one of the rare fighters in the series history to get a UFC contract after losing. The featherweight kicked off the fight card against Roman Pug and was defeated via unanimous decision.

The 34 year-old Russian vacated the lightweight championship in June 2025 to move up to the 170-pound weight class to pursue a second divisional UFC title. He captured the belt in his welterweight debut defeating then champion Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 322.

With Makhachev holding the title, there’s no shortage of opponents he could face next. Top-ranked contender Carlos Prates awaits a title fight opportunity. The undefeated No. 3 ranked Michael Morales has a strong case to be next in line. There’s also the undefeated by injured Shavkat Rakhmonov. Makhachev’s coach, Javier Mendez, doesn’t think the champion cares who he faces in his second title defense.

“Bring on the next one,” Mendez told Submission Radio. “We’re expected to fight the best ones available, so if it’s Prates, great. If it’s Morales, great. If it’s Shavkat, great. Bring them. I don’t care. Islam is not going to care who he fights.

“Look, if we are pound-for-pound No. 1, and we claim that, which we do, we shouldn’t be afraid of anybody and Islam’s not. So, I don’t think he cares who’s next.”
